DERMAL FILLERS
A combination of genetics, ageing and external aggressors can cause the face to lose volume and shape in areas where you might like to see a more refined or youthful appearance.
The continual improvement of dermal filler formulations means that they’re suitable for many uses and can be used to treat and improve the appearance of premature ageing or to add contour. Dermal fillers can revitalise and rejuvenate your appearance, treating: hollowing, sagging, loss of structure, shape, definition, fine lines and wrinkles, and can provide facial structure and support for sagging tissues.

Frequently asked questions
Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel consisting of stabilized, non-animal hyaluronic acid. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It is long-lasting but not permanent. Dermal filler is used to correct folds and other depressions in the skin, add volume and contour. The dermal fillers used at Profile + Aesthetics are Revolax, Stylage, Resylane and Juverderm. These are a soft, injectable gels which contain stabilised hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that exists naturally in the cells of the human skin.
The face loses volume and structure as we age, the bones and the soft tissue dissolve and contribute to appearance of lose skin and hollows. Dermal fillers may be used to replace this volume loss and restore the structural support, giving the patient a more youthful appearance. The aim is to make the face more harmonious, create symmetry and rejuvenate. For instance, the lips may be injected to improve their shape, size, symmetry and proportion. Nasolabial folds may be injected to "fill in" and smooth out creases. The cheeks may be injected to make the face more defined, contoured and "lift" the skin. An underdeveloped chin may be injected to make it appear more projected and proportionate.
Yes – dermal fillers have been used worldwide for many years, resulting in millions of successful treatments. We use only products with proven safety record. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance which occurs naturally in the cells of the skin.
-Injection-related reactions: these reactions may include redness at the injection site immediately after the treatment.
Bruising: occasionally, but rarely, bruising can occur. Bruising usually subsides in 4-7 days
-Contour irregularities: Massaging can usually smooth out any ‘lumpiness’ however if persistent the filler can be easily and rapidly dissolved.
-Infection — as with all injections, this procedure carries a risk of infection, all be it very small. Syringes use are individually packaged and sterile. A high level of safety and hygiene precautions associated with injectable materials are always taken.
-Necrosis — one of the worst possible complications of dermal filler. Fortunately, this is extremely rare. This happens when dermal filler compromises blood flow either by occlusion or constriction. Fortunately all possible steps are taken when injecting to help to eliminate this risk.
Results are immediate, with further improvement in the vitality of the skin developing over the following one to two weeks.
As with cosmetic tattooing, topical numbing cream is applied to minimise any discomfort. Most clients comment on how little pain they feel! A steady hand and a slow approach to injectables helps to achieve this. It's normal to feel anxious when coming for an injectable treatment, but you'll be pleased to know that these emotions release endorohins- which is your body's natural pain relief. So combined with the help of topical numbing cream most clients are comfortable enough.
Fillers last different times in different patients (lifestyle and biology will play a big part in the length of time results last) and in different areas of the face. The effects of the of hyaluronic acid last twelve to eighteen months in areas such as the cheeks, jaw and chin. However, for lip fillers (an area where there is far more movement) re-treatment may be appropriate after six to nine months.
Just as is so with cosmetic tattooing, full assessment of suitability prior to treatment is undertaken. However, dermal fillers should not be used in patients with severe allergies, particularly those who have allergies to bacterial proteins or patients with a history of anaphylaxis. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised to delay treatment. No treatments are performed on those under the age of 18 years.
Make sure you eat! Have had plenty of rest and have avoided alcohol and blood thinning medication at least 48 hours prior to treatment. The same applies for cosmetic tattooing and botox.
